Unibrows is a neat little utility for web developers. It was a real shock for me when I realized that my website is not opening correctly in Internet Explorer 6 and I only came to know about this when I opened it on a friend’s computer running on Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6. Both of my home computer and laptop were running on Windows 7 with Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox. So it was a bummer for me to know that my site doesn’t show up good in Internet Explorer 6 where quite a few of my visitors are still opening my site in IE6.
At that time I spent a lot of time by installing windows XP with IE6 on a spare computer and then organizing the code of my wordpress theme but before that I searched quite a lot for a utility like Unibrows which could enable me to view websites with IE6 engine.
The above scenario tells how important this is for web developers to be able to view their developed website on different browsers, specially IE6 on a single computer which would obviously save a lot of time for them. And now with Unibrows all the web developers woes can be answered.
After installation, you just have to configure which of the sites should use the IE6 rendering engine and that’s it. Upon opening those site on IE 8 tabs, these will automatically be rendered using IE6 engine. Vary handy.
The Unibrows developer called Browsium is giving away this add-on to beta testers only for now. You can sign up here to get an invite for beta.
