Official Google Mobile Blog has announced the availability Google Sync Beta service for Symbian S60 devices like Nokia N series which will now enable the users of these devices to sync their Contacts and Calendar entries with the online Google services.
From the Google Mobile Blog
Google Sync offers two-way, over-the-air contacts and calendar synchronization. This means that you can make changes to your contacts and calendar on your phone or in your desktop Google account. Since Sync uses push technology, the changes should automatically appear within minutes. And your information is constantly syncing, so it’s up-to-date and securely stored within your Google account, even if you lose your phone.
This is a very welcome step from Google where the majority of world’s Mobile users own Symbian S60 since its the most preferred and most used platform for smart phone users and with the support for this platform Google is going to greatly increase the number of users for its online services and at the same time the S60 platform users will enjoy more secure and reliable online sync services.
One thing to notice here is that Google Sync uses the popular “Mail for Exchange” application on Nokia S60 devices to create contacts and Calendar sync profile. Mail for Exchange is a software which lets Nokia S60 smart phones to connect with an exchange email server to get push email services like Blackberry but unfortunately at this time Google Sync for S60 beta only syncs Calendar and contacts. Although not supported as of yet, I see an ability here for Email sync (with Gmail) and Tasks sync which will definitely enhance the user experiences by letting the users enjoy the push email features for their Gmail account.
For now to use Google Sync you need to visit m.google.com/sync from your desktop.

hi,
gmail sync ala push@blackberry is already available for N and E-series phones.
email.nokia.com is based o intellisync and allows the user to sync up to 10 different email accounts: hotmail, yahoo, gmail, normal pop/imap.
bug it does not sync contacts/calender.
a bit strange though that s60 can only sync via MFE or Roadsync OTA and that google sync has to use that as a proxy
Hi David…..thanks for stopping by and thanks for suggesting email.nokia.com but the problem with email.nokia.com is that it doesn’t support a wide range of phone models as I have just checked. Google provides a host of features for a variety of phone models and as days go by the features are being constantly enhanced.
Hamid,
you are absolutely correct. Nokia only support the latest N/E phones, like E71/75, N95/96, etc with S60 3.1 or 3.2, not even 5 (like 5800 – tube) is support. And one of Nokia’s main problem is to make sure that the services, like email, maps, chat, will work well across all Nokia phones – and with the legacy of tightly integrating applications, that is a tough job. With MFE, at least most N/E phones are supported (as well as 5800).
However, the application is pretty neat and is my primary way of checking my gmail emails nowadays.
